Your group may join TOG and become a part of the larger association with or without legal status.  If your group meets Temple of the Goddess Association requirements and decides to join with legal status you will be eligible to share the benefits and protections of Temple of the Goddess through its group exemption from the U.S. Treasury.

To qualify for tax exemption, all charitable organizations, including churches must meet the following requirements:

1.
The organization must be organized and operated exclusively for religious, educational, scientific, or other charitable purposes,
2. Net earnings may not inure to the benefit of any private individual or shareholder,
3. No substantial part of its activity may be attempting to influence legislation,
4. The organization may not intervene in political campaigns, and
5. No part of the organization’s purposes or activities may be illegal or violate fundamental public policy.

If your group is considering becoming a bona fide temple, church, or other non profit associated affiliation, whether through Temple of the Goddess or through another group, it is an important step.  The decision to become a legally identified religious organization is one that should not be entered into lightly or without getting professional legal advice.
