Youth & Aging
There is a fountain of youth:
it is your mind, your talents,
the creativity you bring to your life
and the lives of the people you love.
When you learn to tap this source,
you will have truly defeated age.
Ruby Plenty Chiefs:
Time is only a process of your ego and your mind.
Time is a coyote, a trickster. It circles us and keeps us in form in this
relative world. It is part of karma; it is part of what we have to let go
of, but it should not be let go of until you are truly ready.
Andrews, Woman of the Sacred Garden
Age does not protect you from love.
But love, to some extent, protects you from age.
You don't stop laughing because you grow old;
you grow old because you stop laughing.
Old age has its pleasures, which, though different,
are not less than the pleasures of youth.
-- W. Somerset
When I was a boy of 14 my father was so ignorant
I could hardly stand to have the old man around.
But when I got to be 21,
I was astonished at how much he had learned in 7 years.
As long as you can still be disappointed, you are still young.
We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise, we harden.
Cosmic upheaval is not so moving as a little child pondering the death of a
sparrow in the corner of a barn.
The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore they attempt the
impossible, and achieve it, generation after generation.
Maturity is that time when the mirrors in our mind turn to windows and
instead of seeing the reflection of ourselves we see others.
One of the most important phases of maturing is that of growth from
self-centering to an understanding relationship to others....A person is not
mature until he has both an ability and a willingness to see himself as one
among others and to do unto those others as he would have them do to him.
-- H. A.
To know how to grow old is the master work of wisdom, and one of the most
difficult chapters in the great art of living.
When your friends begin to flatter you on how young you look,
it's a sure sign you're getting old.
To be happy, we must be true to nature,
and carry our age along with us.
Some men never seem to grow old. Always active in thought, always ready to
adopt new ideas, they are never chargeable with fogyism. Satisfied, yet ever
dissatisfied, settled, yet ever unsettled, they always enjoy the best of
what is, and are the first to find the best of what will be.
No age has a monopoly on success.
Any age is the right age to start doing!
Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age
of eighty and gradually approach eighteen.
It is not by the gray of the hair that one knows the age of the heart.
When we are young, we are slavishly employed in procuring something whereby
we may live comfortable when we grow old; and when we are old,
we perceive it is too late to live as we proposed.
Age does not make us childish, as some say;
it finds us true children.
While one finds company in himself and his pursuits,
he cannot feel old, no matter what his years may be.
-- A. B.
To grow old is to grow common.
Old age equalizes
we are aware that what is happening to us has
happened to untold numbers from the beginning of time.
When we are young we act as
if we were the first young people in the world.
To be 70 years young is sometimes far more cheerful and hopeful
than to be 40 years old.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
The quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important.
Martin Luther King
Age is not important unless you're a cheese.
Cherish all your happy moments; they make a fine cushion for old age.
A man is not old as long as he is seeking something.
If wrinkles must be written upon our brows,
let them not be written upon the heart.
The spirit should never grow old.
