    Only One Earth

    My Mother is everywhere . . .
In the perfume of a rose,
    The eyes of a tiger,
    The pages of a book,
    The food that we partake,
The whistling wind of the desert,
    The blazing gems of sunset,
The crystal light of full moon,
    The opal veils of sunrise.

    Circle of Life

As the Wheel of Life spins, the seasons bear witness to the covenant of the Goddess, Her promise of life and the never-ending cycle of birth, death, and renewal. To each of us in times of both joy and sorrow She sweetly whispers, "Be not afraid of my cycles and embrace the changing nature of all things, the permanence within the impermanence. The seasons bear witness to this promise I manifested for you. For surely, the darkness and death of winter is followed by the light and renewal of spring."

    We Remember:

The mother of Temple of the Goddess’ Media Advisor and documentarian Jules Hart, Maxine Silliman, died at her home on Spring Equinox, March 20, 2006 at the age of 85. A native of Luttesville, Mssouri, she was born February 11, 1921. Mrs. Silliman served as a Yeoman in the Sea Otter WAVES during World War II. She was proud to have her name engraved on the Women in Military Service for American Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. Read on. . .

The Reluctant Goddess: Kleopatra and the Stolen Throne

    by Dharma Windham

Young Kleopatra, the third youngest daughter of King Auletes Ptolemy, studies in the Great Library with Sosogines of Heliopolis, as well as in the Gymnasion, throwing lances and running, under the guidance of her loyal Sword-Bearer, Timoxenos. She is a well-rounded princess who learns to speak Egyptian in order to understand her father’s people. One to help the poor and save the oppressed, she is destined for greatness.

Her training does her well when at age 15 she is forced to leave the palace in Alexandria as her father is forced from the throne. She is safely ensconced for a while, under the care of Memnes, the high priest of Heliopolis, as her father travels to Rome in hopes of raising an army. What evil has overthrown the King? None other than Kleopatra’s sister, Berenike. More . . .

Ritual As Worship: What is ritual? Why do we do ritual?
    spring equinox

Alchemy: a method or power of transmutation; the seemingly miraculous change of a thing into something better. -- Webster

Transmutation: Why We Need Ritual. Ritual has been part of the human experience since the beginning of time. Our lives are filled with unconscious rituals that mark our days and add warmth, texture, and meaning to our existence. Reading the morning paper over coffee, walking the dog in the evening, and saying good night to our children with a song or bedtime story all become important, ritualized moments in the course of our everyday lives. Rituals are an integral part of the psyche; they connect us to others, to our own inner processes, and to that something which is greater than ourselves. Yet somehow, somewhere we lost our conscious connection to the healing power of ritual. Undoubtedly, we have become a society that is ritually impoverished. Read on. . .

    Movie Review by Xia
    rosie review

As a mythologist I feel there is no greater medium than TV and film. The stories told via the media impact and influence literally billions of people. Television and movie screens are the flickering fires where we gather and hear the stories of the people—to be entertained, yes and hopefully glean something that will enlighten the human condition. Television, for good or bad, has become the hearth of the home. It is the fire we light when we walk in our cave door. Movie houses are the “cathedrals” of our day as more people attend the ritual of cinema than all the churches combined. As conscious consumers, we must demand more. We must demand better. We must demand life-affirming mythology instead of fear-based mythology. We must support the life-affirming stories and the artists who create them. There’s no better way to do that than to beat the tom-toms and signal each other when we come upon something that affirms, touches, moves, and yes, entertains us.

Such is the case with the documentary, All Aboard! Rosie's Family Cruise, which began airing this month on HBO. I had seen the title numerous times but always passed over it. Truthfully, the only thing I don’t like about this film is the title. All Aboard! is the most life-affirming story I’ve seen in. . .well, way too long. More . . .
