Seasons Greetings, The temple newsletter has been fallow the last two months as most temple resources have gone towards a skirmish with the IRS. We applied more than a year ago for a Group Ruling Determination which would allow us to birth other temples and associated organizations under the umbrella of Temple of the Goddess. An agent was assigned our case and we have been challenged at every turn in the road. We have been researching, writing, and submitting countless documents since early June. We were informed last week that TOG was being denied the Group Ruling based on a discretionary procedure and were told that they did not need to give us a reason. Scary, eh? We plan to appeal the decision and ask that you keep the temple and this legal issue in your thoughts and prayers. We will prevail and there will be Temple of the Goddess’s all over the U.S. in the years to come. Also, we had a great day at this year’s Pagan Pride on September 11th. Pythia did a remarkable job, in coordination with Karen and Roy Tate, to make Temple of the Goddess a visible presence. Anne Gauldin donated (literally) thousands of Spirit Tatoos which Pythia packaged and displayed in a gift basket inviting children to be gifted with a free packet of water soluble tatoos. While the children were looking at the assortment of tatoos, Pythia and I invited the parents to sign up for TOG announcements and informed them that our rituals were open to families and children. The parents were thrilled that there was a place to do earth-based rituals where children and families were welcome. The day was a great success thanks to Pythia, Anne Gauldin & Spirit Tatoos, Karen & Roy Tate. Thank you and many blessings. We hope that many of the families from PPDay who signed our mailing list will join us at our Autumn Equinox ritual. (Parents, click here to download a fun Fall Maze.) Many blessings, Xia
Fall Equinox Celebration offered by
Temple of the Goddess on Saturday, September
23rd.
Fall is the time of Thanksgiving, a time of gifts and
blessings worldwide. Day and night are equal and the
balance of giving and taking, of light and dark,
summer and winter, life and death are the focus of
this Sabbat. Though the year is waning and winter
approaches, the emphasis is less on death than on
the message of rebirth in the harvest seeds and the
plenty of the season.
Please join us in celebration of the Autumn Equinox.
The Temple Sabbats are ritual theater that combine
mythology and art to re-connect us to the Earth as
well as strengthen our connection to the Earth.
These seasonal rituals are multi-media programs
combining music, dance, liturgy, spoken word, visual
art, and participatory theater which fuses drum and
dance with personal enactment. These multi-cultural
events are directed toward family and community
and in 2006 are being held at the Neighborhood
Unitarian Universalist Church in Pasadena. Bring a
fruit or vegetable offering in honor of this year’s
harvest. Click here for

The flame-red moon, the harvest moon,
So people can't sleep,
Till the gold fields of stiff wheat
Ted Hughes
As the Wheel of Life spins, the seasons bear witness
to the covenant of the Goddess, her promise of life
and the never-ending cycle of birth, death, and
renewal. To each of us in times of both joy and
sorrow She sweetly whispers, "Be not afraid of my
cycles and embrace the changing nature of all
things, the permanence within the impermanence.
The seasons bear witness to this promise I
manifested for you. For surely, the darkness and
death of winter is followed by the light and renewal
of spring."
Congratulations to our beautiful web mistress,
Shannon Adamson, who carries new life within.
You're going to be a phenomenal mother.
Hallows Eve Celebration, October 28th. This is the new year, the time when the veil between this world and the spirit world is at its thinnest. It marks the onset of a darker, more introspective time of year. The theme of Hallows Eve is honoring darkness, memory of the dead, communication with the spirit world, and purification for the future.

More times than I can count over the last year I've been asked, "Who and what is the Sacred Feminine?" I can understand the confusion. I grew up in New Orleans where many believe the civilized world is only 6,000 years old. I can vouch for the fact it becomes a life-changing experience when one discovers what actually existed 20,000 to 30,000 years ago and that knowledge becomes part of one's reality. No doubt I'm being asked about this with more frequency because these ideas are reaching the hearts and minds of more people as Dan Brown's fictional bestseller, The DaVinci Code, has piqued the curiosity of millions. These seekers want to separate fact from fiction as the documentaries are not always telling the whole story. Clues suggest contemporary people are advocating for the return to veneration or ideals associated with a female god. Being one of these people, an independent scholar of the Sacred Feminine, I can tell you, the answers one finds are usually a surprise. More. . .
