Seasons Greetings,

It's amazing to think the Wheel of the Year has turned again, yet here we are at December with longer nights and shorter days.

Our big temple news this month is the launch of our Temple Store. So great news for all you holiday shoppers! You can now go to TempleoftheGoddess.org to shop. We have stores for books, music & videos, and gifts (some personalized with the TOG logo). A percentage of every purchase goes to the temple. Feel good about shopping-add charity (not from your pocket, but their's) while you get the best deals on the web.

Temple of the Goddess has had a great year and your continued support by shopping through our Temple Store will help keep the temple doors open in 2008. I send winter blessings to one and all. Xia

Pagan Leaders Elected to Interfaith Positions

Two well-known leaders of the Pagan community were elected to executive positions by the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions (CPWR), in Chicago, Illinois this past weekend.

The Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions was founded in 1893 and has an international presence. It is the oldest, largest, and considered by many to be the most respected interfaith organization in the world today.

Since its founding, CPWR has sponsored major international interfaith conferences in the USA, Africa, and Europe, and is preparing for the next conference to be held in Melbourne, Australia in 2009. Continued . . .

Circle of LifeAs the Wheel of Life spins, the seasons bear witness to the covenant of the Goddess, Her promise of life and the never-ending cycle of birth, death, and renewal. To each of us in times of both joy and sorrow She sweetly whispers, "Be not afraid of my cycles and embrace the changing nature of all things, the permanence within the impermanence. The seasons bear witness to this promise I manifested for you. For surely, the darkness and death of winter is followed by the light and renewal of spring."

We Remember:  Eugene Freeman Hu, beloved partner of Lisa Thiel, who crossed over in October 2007. Eugene, a Greenman and son of the Earth Mother, will be missed by all those whose life he touched.  His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who love him.

O.C. witch fights for pentacle-inscribed tombstones.           Autumn's Last Sigh

Yvonne Conway sees dead people, so tombstones were a no-brainer. Conway is the national spokesperson for the Berkley-based witchcraft organization Covenant of the Goddess. She may also be Orange County's most prominent witch.

The 37-year-old Huntington Beach native organizes three Meetup.com social networking groups for Orange County witches, pagans and ghost enthusiasts.

She belongs to a coven of eight, believes in magic and says that ghosts routinely flutter through her Orange County home. Continued . . .

Bring Back the Greek Gods. Mere mortals had a better life when more than one ruler presided from on high.

Prominent secular and atheist commentators have argued lately that religion "poisons" human life and causes endless violence and suffering. But the poison isn't religion; it's monotheism. The polytheistic Greeks didn't advocate killing those who worshiped different gods, and they did not pretend that their religion provided the right answers. Their religion made the ancient Greeks aware of their ignorance and weakness, letting them recognize multiple points of view.

There is much we still can learn from these ancient notions of divinity, even if we can agree that the practices of animal sacrifice, deification of leaders and divining the future through animal entrails and bird flights are well lost.

My Hindu students could always see something many scholars miss: The Greek gods weren't mere representations of forces in nature but independent beings with transcendent powers who controlled the world and everything in it. Some of the gods were strictly local, such as the deities of rivers and forests. Others were universal, such as Zeus, his siblings and his children. Continued . . .

Travel to Sacred Places of the Divine Feminine begins again . . . Guided by Karen Tate.

On your sacred tour, history, spirituality and culture come alive, creating a continuum between past and present. Time and distance dims. The line between traditional and non-traditional faith fades. You become one with the Mother.
